Cookie policy – Kiwirugbybetting

The few technical tools behind Kiwirugbybetting and its rugby and betting pages are listed here, with what each does and how a visitor can say no. Browsers save cookies as small text files, and local or session storage and counting pixels act in a similar way.

Law

Cookies and the like that gather personal information come under the Privacy Act 2020, specifically the information privacy principles in section 22. Collection serves a lawful purpose linked to the running of the site (IPP 1) and the person is informed of what is gathered and why (IPP 3). The information is kept secure by reasonable safeguards (IPP 5) and retained only as long as needed (IPP 9). IPP 12 sets the conditions for disclosure outside New Zealand. A choice made in the banner can be altered whenever wished.

Necessary files

The site depends on these to work well: they hold a session, balance traffic between servers, protect forms from abuse and store the cookie choice. No separate choice is offered for them. Session files vanish when the browser is closed, whereas the saved choice stays for twelve months at most.

Optional files

Setting these waits for a choice in the banner. Functional ones keep preferences, for instance the comparison table that was last open. Analytics ones tally page views and show what is read, so that the pages can improve. IP addresses are shortened before analysis. Profiles tracking people across other sites are not made.

Services from other providers

A video or map embedded from elsewhere can set files of its own, in which case that provider’s privacy rules apply and any objection goes to it. Kiwirugbybetting does not set advertising cookies that build profiles for personalised ads without a clear choice in the banner.

Refusal and withdrawal

Through "Cookie settings" in the footer, a choice can be changed or withdrawn at any time, withdrawal applying going forward. Browsers also give users the means to block or delete cookies. After the necessary files are removed the banner returns, and some features might not work briefly.

Complaint route

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner takes complaints about how personal information is handled. The privacy policy of this site explains that handling.
